Attempts by Russian President Vladimir Putin to resume missile confrontation with the United States are doomed to failure. This opinion in an article for ZN.ua expressed the ex-Secretary of the national security Council and defense of Ukraine, Director of the National Institute for strategic studies Volodymyr Gorbulin.

«The problem is the difference of perception of the world. The United States, even during the confrontation with the Soviet Union recognized his equality only in a very narrow field – all in the same nuclear weapons, and partly in the geopolitics. Today’s Russia is not even a pale shadow of the USSR, and only a trace of shadow. To imagine that this rivalry can be equal, capable of only a very naive (or too believed in Russian propaganda of domestic consumption) people», – he wrote.

According to Gorbulin, Washington and the Kremlin is aware that the outcome of the confrontation depends on «rocket duel» and the internal stability of each country.

«It is the resistance and is trying to cement Putin. While ignoring too small and inefficient economy that does not match the global ambitions of Russia. However, this discrepancy can generate new calls at first regional and then global security, the Kremlin will try to solve a systemic problem at the expense of situational decisions (like the outbreak of new conflicts),» – said the expert.
