Germany: lifting of sanctions against Russia is not expected

The lifting of sanctions against Russia in the foreseeable future given the situation in the East of Ukraine is still not in sight. This opinion was expressed by the Commissioner of the German government for cooperation with Russia Gernot Erler, writes DW.com.

Erler said that in the Donbass daily narushena the ceasefire.

«In recent weeks, we almost every day had been a breach of the truce and the ceasefire, which resulted in numerous casualties on both sides» — quoted Erler dpa.

In addition, all 28 member countries of the EU agree on the fact that the issue of lifting of sanctions can only be reached after full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

As earlier reported, foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke in favour of a gradual abolition of sanctions against Russia in case of substantial progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Recall that in early July the European Union decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia over its actions in Ukraine for another six months. Sanctions extended until 31 January 2017.
