From Antarctica here-here will break away a giant iceberg, the sea level will rise 10 inches

From the last remaining part of the ice shelf «Larsen» in a few weeks or months will break away the block of ice with an area of about five thousand square kilometers, reports BBC Russian.

Glacier «Larsen» — the last part of the Larsen ice sheet, which previously consisted of three parts and had a total area comparable to the area of the island of Jamaica. In recent decades glaciers «Larsen A and Larsen B» was destroyed and left under water, as they say many scientists, of global warming.

«Larsen A» was split off from the main body of the glacier in 1995. In 2002 the same thing happened to part of the «Larsen b» area of 3250 sq km and a thickness of 220 m. in Just 35 days, «Larsen In» collapsed almost completely.

Now the destruction reached the last part of the glacier Larsen. In December last year, the American space Agency NASA showed pictures of the fault, with a width of 100 m and a depth of 500 m, resulting in the «Larsen». When the fault reaches the ocean, will break away the ice floe with an area of 5 thousand square kilometers (more than half of Cyprus).

It can happen within months. Now the fault remains the 20 km to the ocean. In December of last year the crack has passed a comparable distance, 18 km, just a few weeks.

The ice, which will break away from the «Larsen» is one of the largest icebergs in history, her dip in the sea even affect the level of the world oceans. According to some estimates, if the water will leave the whole glacier «Larsen C» entirely, sea level could rise by 10 centimeters.

We will remind, in March 2015 in Antarctica recorded a temperature record: +17,8°.
