The government of Ukraine approved the national plan for the reduction of emissions from large combustion plants by the Ministry of ecology and natural resources jointly with the Ministry of energy and coal industry, international experts and power generation companies. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of environment with reference to the Minister of Ostap Semerak.
The plan takes effect from 1 January 2018 and for the period until 31 December 2033.

«For Ukraine, the reduction of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere is not just an important European commitment. First of all we are talking about the health and lives of citizens. The solution to this problem long time ago stuck in time. It is clear that Ukrainian enterprises will not reduce emissions at one point. This purpose was developed a national plan, which sets out a transition period for enterprises,» – said Semerak, noting that the new requirements for heat generating companies will be effective from 1 January 2018.
According to the head of Department, the plan is developed taking into account the further implementation of the European directives, which Ukraine pledged to observe in the framework of the Association Agreement.
«So, in the European Union now has tough restrictions on allowable emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and dust from combustion plants», – he said.
In addition, Semerak reminded that Ukraine is a member of the Energy community and must adhere to commitments of bringing them in line with European standards all large combustion plants.
In particular, the introduction of the National plan also envisages the amendments to the standards for permissible emissions of polluting substances by thermal power plants with a nominal power exceeding 50 MW.
