Foreign Ministry asks the world to step up pressure on the Kremlin over Avdeevka. Yelchenko wrote a letter to the UN Secretary-General

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to international partners to strengthen political and diplomatic pressure on the Kremlin to stop the dangerous escalation in the Donbas and to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. This is stated in the statement of the MFA of Ukraine in connection with worsening situation in the Donbass.

«We demand from the Russian Federation to immediately stop hostilities and strictly follow the ceasefire regime», — insist in the Ministry.

The foreign Ministry believes that such actions of the Kremlin can be qualified as a war crime, a gross violation of the Geneva conventions of 12 August 1949, is illegal, wanton and widespread destruction of property not justified by military necessity.

«Because of the shelling of residential areas suffering civilian population, injuring two civilians. Completely de-energized remains of the city of Avdeevka and Yasinovataya, without water, electricity and heat are just over 400 thousand civilians in the region. Given the complications of weather conditions and the ongoing attacks of the militants, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate,» reads the statement.
