For Christmas, the Pontiff will receive 6 million euros for Ukraine

The first tranche of financial assistance of the Vatican to eliminate the consequences of Russian military intervention in Ukraine and the resulting humanitarian crisis will be transferred to Christmas. He will be 6 million euros, reports on Friday, 23 December 2016, the press service of the Holy see.

This is half of the amount collected on the initiative of Pope Francis in the churches of Europe for Ukrainians affected by military actions.

Through the Nunciature of the Vatican in Ukraine funds will be used to Finance projects to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of the East countries, informs a press-service.

As reported, on April 3 of this year, Pope Francis has declared April 24th as a day of collecting donations in all European Catholic parishes for the provision of humanitarian assistance to victims of war with Russia to citizens of Ukraine.

According to the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), the Pope instructed the bishops in Ukraine for several months to analyze the number of those who are in need of assistance and submit these data to the Vatican. According to him, the assistance of the Vatican in the framework of the humanitarian project of Pope Francis «Papa» will be provided targeted, and assistance programs will be approved by the Vatican.

Subsequently more than 8 million euros were transferred to the public organizations engaged in problems of the IDPs. With these funds, Pope Francis delivered a message in which he asks to make sure that the money will really be the poorest among the poor. The Pontiff said that the fundraiser was very difficult and therefore asked that the Ukrainian government has defended the money.
