Turkey could reintroduce the death penalty. This was stated by the President of the country Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on the events dedicated to the anniversary of coup d’etat attempt in the country, AFP reports.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on 19 March said that if Turkey will legalize the death penalty, it can become an obstacle to the EU.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on April 29 said that the introduction in Turkey of the death penalty will put an end to negotiations with the European Union.
