FIFA launched an investigation into the circumstances of the preparation of Germany for the 2006 world Cup

The ethics Committee of the International football Federation (FIFA) has opened a case to clarify the circumstances of the obtaining by Germany of the right to host the world Cup in 2006, according to a press release, the organization writes NEWSru.com.

The defendants in the case will be six former German football officials, among them former head of the German football Association (DFB) Wolfgang Niersbach and head of the organizing Committee for the 2006 world Cup, the famous former football player and coach Franz Beckenbauer.

The investigation will cover possible payments and contracts, which might help Germany to get the right to host the world Cup, as well as non-compliance of the code of ethics of FIFA.

Recall that in July 2000, Germany by a margin of one vote, won the right to host the 2006 world Cup, ahead of Brazil, Morocco, England and South Africa.

Earlier, the German weekly Spiegel reported that the Germans bribed the four functionaries in the FIFA Executive Committee. Thus, according to the newspaper, they set up a secret Fund to bribe football officials.

To the needs of the bid Committee, in particular in 2000, Adidas has been translated 10.3 million Swiss francs, whose fate has not been reflected in the financial statements.

In October it was reported that the DFB has conducted an internal investigation and found no evidence that the elections of the host country for the 2006 world Cup were unfair. However, investigators were forced to conclude that many of the documents, including emails, destroyed. In addition, a number of witnesses because of their age are experiencing memory problems, and one of the main persons involved have already died.
