The Russian authorities are indifferent to the hunger strikes that declare Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. On this edition of «GORDON» said Russian lawyer mark Feigin, commenting on the decision of a resident of the annexed Crimea Ruslan Saydullaeva, who was convicted in Russia in the case of «Hizb ut-Tahrir», to start an indefinite hunger strike.
«I am against hunger strikes by Ukrainian political prisoners. The Russian government, like the Soviet, is absolutely indifferent to this. It is not sensitive to such actions. The reaction of the authorities of the Russian Federation should be not on the hunger strike, and public noise, which it raises. I was against the hunger strike Savchenko (non-faction people’s Deputy Nadezhda Savchenko. – «GORDON»). But the effect of the hunger strike can really give. However, it should be a lot of factors,» – said Feigin.
According to him, the matter Zeitullaev not attracted sufficient public attention.
«Hunger strike can be effective only if it is brought to public attention. Unfortunately, the case Zeitullaev no such attention. The theme of the Crimean Tatars, to put it mildly, is on the periphery. Moreover, in Europe, a very cautious attitude to Islamic institutions, and Zeitullaev is just «Hizb ut-Tahrir». In fact, due to the radical suffering for the ordinary Muslims,» said the lawyer.
In his opinion, another hunger strike Zeitullaev only harm their own health.
«Zeitullaev a good lawyer. But to achieve the same resonance, which has been around Savchenko, very hard. Create it artificially is almost impossible. So Zeitullaev should not starve, it will only hurt your health. But it is still useful to him to continue the fight for their freedom. Everything else you need to raise the issue of «Hizb ut Tahrir», it’s not the terrorists and ordinary Muslims. This is unfair and unlawful persecution of the people», – concluded Feigin.
Zeitullaev was arrested in January 2015 in annexed Crimea on the organization «Hizb ut-Tahrir», whose activity in Russia is illegal. The court of first instance sentenced him to seven years imprisonment.
Zeitullaev however, the case was sent for new consideration in Severo-the Caucasian district military court, which is 26 April 2017 sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime.
In may the Russian Prosecutor’s office appealed to the Supreme court of the Russian Federation, demanding to assign the Crimea 17 years of strict regime colony. On 27 July, the Supreme court increased the sentence Zeitullaev to 15 years.
In jail the prisoner several times on hunger strike.
August 25, the permanent mission of Ukraine to the UN in his Twitter reported that Sadullaev appealed to the United Nations with an open letter in which he urged to continue the pressure on Russia to release all Ukrainian prisoners. He also said that announcing an indefinite hunger strike.
