Ex-goalkeeper of the Turkish football were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the coup attempt in 2016

The former goalkeeper of the Turkish football Omer Catkic arrested by court in Istanbul on charges of involvement in a coup d’état in 2016, according to state news Agency Anadolu.

The Prosecutor said that ex-football player used the messenger ByLock, by which the members of the banned in Turkey organization of the preacher Fethullah Gulen were exchanging encrypted messages.

According to the investigation, since 2014, Chadic received instructions on opening and servicing Bank accounts of the organization gülen.

The athlete faces up to 15 years in prison for «participation in activities of a terrorist organization».

The Turkish authorities claim that the coup attempt involved living in the United States, the opposition preacher Fethullah Gulen and demand his extradition. Himself the preacher asked US not to meet the requirements of Turkey called Ankara’s request for extradition of a political vendetta.
