The EU leaders called on Europeans to join a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris at noon on November 16.
The corresponding statement was circulated by the press service of the European Council.
«We Europeans will remember 13 November 2015 as a European day of mourning. All Europeans are invited to participate in a minute of silence in memory of the victims at noon on Monday, November 16,» — said in a statement.
The leaders promised to do everything possible to confront terrorism at the European level.
«The European Union is deeply shocked and in mourning after the terrorist attacks in Paris. It is an attack on all of us. We will resist this threat using all necessary means and with cutthroat decisiveness», — stated in the statement.
EU leaders declared that the terrorist act that was intended to divide, intimidate and sow hatred in Europe has reached the opposite goal.
«Good is stronger than evil. All that can be done at the European level with the aim to make France safe will be done. We will do everything necessary to defeat terrorism, extremism and hatred,» the statement said.
Recall that in a series of terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday, 13 November, killing up to 150 people, with around 300 people were injured. Responsibility for the attacks was assumed by the terrorist group «Islamic state».
Islamists staged a massacre in the concert hall, blew up a bomb in the football stadium, shot the visitors several restaurants. At the Stad de France stadium at two different entrances exploded suicide bombers, was also bombed. The deadliest episode was the massacre at a rock concert in the Bataclan club, where four men in black were shot about a hundred people.
Earlier it was reported that French police have identified two of the eight terrorists. One of them is a French citizen, the other a Syrian. French media reported about the detention of Syrian, suspected of involvement in major terrorist attacks in the history of France.
French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency, intensified controls at the borders of the country. Monday, November 16, Hollande will speak on the urgent message to Parliament.
France announced three days of mourning.
Worldwide solidarity with the French people expressed coming with candles, flowers and notes to diplomatic missions in the country. And official institutions and landmarks around the world turned the colors of the French flag.
