Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Kistion discussed with the head of the EU delegation in Ukraine by Hugues Mingarelli , the question of visa-free regime and reform of the energy sector of Ukraine. It is reported by government portal.
«Today, a meeting of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion with the head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli. During the meeting the sides discussed a number of topical issues, in particular, regarding the receipt by Ukraine of a visa-free regime, reforms in the Ukrainian energy sector and the like», — stated in the message.
Question noted that Ukraine fulfilled all obligations to the abolition of the visa regime and is awaiting adoption by the EU positive decision in the near future.
«The positive decision on this issue significantly, though indirectly, will also show support Brussels reform steps of the government of Ukraine», — stressed Vice Prime Minister.
Mingarelli agreed that today its part of obligations must fulfil the European side and assured that for its part will do all the necessary steps to expedite this process.
Also, the European official confirmed that cooperation in the energy sector remains one of the main areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU for 25 years. The European partners are watching the process of reforming Ukraine’s energy sector, I understand the concerns about some recent decisions within the EU in the sphere of use of gas pipelines, and will continue to make the necessary efforts to ensure that Ukraine remained an important partner in the transportation of natural gas to Europe.
As reported, on 10 November, the European Commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy Johannes Hahn in conversation with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the European Union in the coming weeks will consider the introduction of a visa-free regime with Ukraine. «The EU Commissioner stressed once again that Ukraine has fulfilled all the criteria and in the coming weeks, the European Union must fulfil its commitments,» reported then in the press service of the Ukrainian President.
November 15, in video message to members of the European business Association said the head of the EP Martin Schulz said that the European Parliament is ready to cancel visa regime for Ukrainians to support the reform and further economic development of Ukraine.
On November 16 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Resolution on the Appeal to the governments of the member States of the European Union, European Parliament and EU Council on the introduction of visa-free regime for citizens of Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expects that the European Parliament approves visa-free regime for Ukraine in November.
