Erdogan unhappy with the agreement on Syria: don’t take into account the position of Ankara

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the ceasefire in Syria is composed of «unfair», because it ignores Ankara’s position.

Erdogan accused Western countries as well as Russia and Iran in promoting its own interests in Syria. In his opinion, the proposed ceasefire plan most benefit Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and Turkey is increasingly frustrated

«The West, the USA, Russia, Iran, the EU and the UN, unfortunately, no longer stand up for human values», — quotes Reuters the statement by Erdogan, made on live national television of Turkey. According to him, these parties because their interests are directly or indirectly allowed the Assad regime and its supporters to kill almost half a million innocent civilians.

Commenting on plans announced by the ceasefire in Syria, the Turkish President said that Russia has used counterterrorism as a pretext for a «brutal attack» on a moderate Syrian opposition. «We fear that the fire of war, persecuting innocent people, never stop,» he said.

In addition, he stressed that Ankara sees the Syrian Kurdish militia as a hostile insurgent force because of its strong ties with the PKK, which for three decades supported the rebellion and a desire for the proclamation of a Kurdish autonomy in Turkey. The right Erdogan urged Washington to decide who its allies — Turkey or Kurdish militia.

«If «Islamic state» and «Frente al-Nusra» the ceasefire does not apply, then the Kurdish group Democratic Union and «people’s defence Units» must also be outside of the cease — fire,» Erdogan said.

According to the President of Turkey, Kurdish parties should be «excluded from the process of the truce». At the same time, Erdogan demanded that the negotiations take into account the interests of Turkey «as the country most affected by what is happening in Syria.» Also, the Turkish leader said that Russian military aircraft continue to violate the airspace of Turkey.

We will remind, on Monday, February 22, in the evening was circulated a joint statement of the Russian Federation and the United States, which says that the ceasefire in Syria will come into force on 27 February at 00:00 (Damascus time).

The statement stressed that the truce apply to all parties to the conflict, with the exception of terrorist groups «Islamic state» and «dzhebhat EN-Nusra» and other terrorist organizations recognized by the UN Security Council.
