Entered into force of the Paris climate agreement. UN: this is the basis for another world

Friday, 4 November, entered into force in the Paris climate agreement, which is ratified by 55 countries accounting for at least 55% of global greenhouse gases. In an interview with Deutsche Welle, the UN Secretary-climate change , Patricia Espinosa , called the document historic.

In her words, it «lays the Foundation for another world.»

The agreement aimed at combating global warming, was adopted in December 2015 in Paris. 195 countries participating in this agreement have pledged to reduce emissions to together to prevent the climate warming more than two degrees Celsius until the end of the century compared to pre-industrial levels.

In the ideal growth temperature on the average should not exceed a half of a degree. At the same time, each country needs to determine its own policy on reducing emissions of carbon dioxide.

The Treaty of Paris signed to replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is aimed at accelerating the implementation of the provisions of the UN framework Convention on climate change and aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change in the context of sustainable development and efforts to overcome poverty.

The Paris Charter sets out the basis of the international climate change regime, whereas the mechanisms, procedures and other practical issues to ensure cooperation in the framework of the Agreement should be developed over the next four years and approved at the first session of the working body of the Transaction — the Conference of the parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris agreement.
