Embassy in Israel recommends Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to East Jerusalem

The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel recommends Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to East Jerusalem because of the deteriorating security situation. This was reported by the press service of the diplomatic mission.

The Ministry stressed that the risk of deterioration and increasing terrorist threats connected with the decision of the President of the United States Donald trump, December 6, the official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and on the transfer of the U.S. Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Embassy recommends Ukrainians, who are already in the city to be vigilant and to avoid crowds.

The decision trump endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is tantamount to the failure of the US mediator in the peace talks.

The initiative of the head of the White house also condemned German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of France Emmanuel macron and Prime Minister of great Britain Teresa may and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

December 7, in Jerusalem riots broke out.

On 8 December the UN Security Council will discuss the decision of trump at the special meeting.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem after the 1967 war and considers the entire city its undivided capital. The international community does not recognize and insists that the city’s status should be determined in the course of the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks. The Palestinians, in turn, want to declare East Jerusalem the capital of their state.

The administrative capital of Israel is now in tel Aviv and the Palestinian authority based in Ramallah.
