Egyptian footballer included in the list of terrorists

A court in Egypt has included a former football player , Mohammed Aboutrika to the list of people linked to terrorism. This was reported by the lawyer of the athlete, says BBC Russian.

According to the lawyer, authorities suspect the player in financing the country banned organization «Muslim brotherhood». The organization was declared a terrorist at the end of 2013.

The lawyer said that he will seek review of this decision.

Aboutrika denies that he, his company or business partners ever funded Islamists.

According to the adopted in 2015, the anti-terrorism law of the country, the people included in the list are prohibited from travel and their assets and passports can be confiscated.

The government has frozen the assets of Aboutrika in 2015. Protection player is trying to achieve unfreezing of those assets.

Aboutrika is one of the most successful African players of his generation. He finished his career in 2013.

During the 2012 presidential election Aboutrika openly supported Mohammed Mursiwho was the candidate from «Brothers-Muslims». In the end, Morsi then became President. But just a year later Morsi was overthrown in a coup d’état. After that, many supporters of the «Muslim Brothers» were killed or ended up in jail.
