Duda and Merkel: the normalization of relations with Russia is impossible

Poland and Germany agree that a return to the policy of «business as usual» in relations with Russia is impossible until it’s resolved conflict in the East of Ukraine and will not recover the international order. This is with reference to the Agency PAP, UKRINFORM reported.

«Both the President and the Chancellor noted that it is impossible to agree on a long-term occupation of a sovereign state. It is impossible to agree to a transition to the normal contacts «business as usual» (with Russia — ed.) After what happened in Ukraine until this conflict is resolved, and will not recover the international order in Ukraine, based on international law,» — said the Minister of the office of the President of Poland Krzysztof Mersky on the results of negotiations in Warsaw Andrzej Duda and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He stressed that Duda and Merkel agreed Europe needed to negotiate with the United States in the key of «preservation of the main line» on Ukraine that profess today also Poland and Germany.

Merski also stressed that Duda and Merkel expressed concern over recent events in Ukraine and the situation goes «to the downside, and do not improve the peace process.»

The Minister of the office of the President of Poland stated: both men agreed that the current situation is «harder and harder in a global, international context and in the context of what is happening in Eastern Ukraine.»

As reported, the European Union will continue the economic sanctions against Russia, primarily in terms of freezing the assets of businessmen close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite the US desire to improve Russian-American relations.
