Dodon has deprived the former President of Romania Basescu Moldovan citizenship

The President of Moldova , Igor Dodon, signed a decree on deprivation of citizenship of the Moldovan ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu.

This was reported in the press service of the Moldovan President, reports «UKRINFORM».

«Decree on deprivation of citizenship of Moldova, Mr. Traian Basescu was signed on the basis of information provided by the Ministry of internal Affairs, Service of information and security, Ministry of information technology. It was established that at the time of granting Traian Basescu citizenship of Moldova ex-President of Romania was involved in several criminal cases initiated against him by the Romanian law enforcement agencies, which contradicts the law of Moldova on citizenship», — said the press service.

Earlier, Igor Dodon has repeatedly stated that in the event of his victory in the presidential election, he will be deprived of Traian Basescu citizenship of Moldova.

Traian Basescu and his wife Maria received the Moldovan citizenship in June 2016. The decree about it was signed by former President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti.

He Traian Basescu has not commented on the decree of the Moldovan President.
