In Kiev on 87-m to year of life died a famous dissident, people’s artist of Ukraine, composer and choir Director «Gomn» Leopold Yashchenko.
This was reported by journalist Vakhtang Kipiani on his page in Facebook.
«The Creator of the choir «Gan» was one of the main charms of Ukrainians during the Communist era. I first saw it, but first heard in the summer of 1988,» he wrote.
«That was the day I joined sociology at the University of Kiev. Rode home on the subway sad, because there was supposed to be the Soviet army from Karabakh and other hot spots. At some point, I seemed to hear the music. First thought – go roof because there could be Ukrainian music in the metro named after Lenin. But actually it was him, Yashchenko, with your favorite sipalay. It was like a signal that all will be well,» – said Kipiani.
Help. Leopold Yashchenko was born on 2 June 1928 in Kiev. In 1947-1949 he studied at the Kiev state music College named after Glier, in 1954 he graduated from the historical-theoretical faculty of the Kiev Conservatory in 1957 — graduate of the Institute of arts, folklore and Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1969 he formed a choir «Gamn». Actively revived in Kiev, the Ukrainian calendar folklore, folk customs and holidays. For this on 28 September 1971 he was expelled from the Union of composers of Ukraine with the wording for «ideological mistakes in the leadership of the choir».
In 1989, Yashchenko was restored at the Union of composers of Ukraine, and the choir «Gomn» the first in Kiev has publicly sung the national anthem «Ukraine has not perished yet».
