Italian historian, Medievalist, philosopher and novelist Umberto Eco, best known for his novel «the name of the rose», died at the age of 84 years.

According to representatives of his family, the writer died Friday night, February 19, at home. Other details were not disclosed, reports the Russian service Bi-Bi-si.

Umberto Eco was born in a small town near Turin in 1932.

In 1954, he graduated from Turin University, where he studied medieval philosophy and literature.
