The German government and the European Commission are disappointed with the recourse of Ukraine in the fight against corruption and believe the cause of the events of President Petro Poroshenko. This is stated in an article published on the website of the German newspaper Bild.
According to the author of the publication, next week, the emissary from Europe must fly to Kiev to explain to Poroshenko, «the seriousness of the situation».
We are talking about the freezing of financial assistance from Germany and the European structures.
«Poroshenko needs to make a choice, he prefers to be President or oligarch: country or money», – said the publication of Norbert röttgen, a representative of the leadership of the party «Christian democratic Union», responsible for foreign policy.
Incomprehensible from the perspective of Berlin was the attempt of the Verkhovna Rada and the Ministry of justice in Kiev to curtail the independence of the National anti-corruption Bureau, which declined from just under international pressure, according to Bild.
The European Commissioner Johannes Hahn told the newspaper that the independence of the anticorruption institutions of Ukraine should be guaranteed. «It tied up our support,» he said.
Amid pressure for anti-corruption institutions have been increasing reports about the growth of Poroshenko assets and expanding its business activities in the public sphere, the newspaper writes.
December 1, the Commission stated that the third tranche of the existing programme of macro-financial assistance in the amount €600 million until given to Ukraine.
The edition «Ukrainian truth» with reference to European officials wrote that Ukraine will be able to receive tranche only after the establishment of the anticorruption court.
On 30 November, the Prosecutor General’s office reported one of the employees of the NABU on suspicion of provocation of a bribe the Deputy head of the State migration service Dina Emahool. On 5 December on suspicion was announced to the two agents.
HCP argued that the actions of the agents of NABOO came «not only beyond the law but also ethics and morality.»
NABU said that the GPU and the SBU illegally intervened in a special operation aimed at identifying participants of an organized criminal group in the State migration service, and called such actions of law enforcement «sabotage».
After the incident, the Bureau ceased all operations under cover. The head of the NABOO Artem Sytnik said that the GPU is struggling for «survival of the corrupt system».
The European Union therefore urged the Ukrainian authorities to intensify «efforts to ensure the independence of, the operating capacity and effectiveness of anti-corruption institutions.»
