Belarus will stop importing electricity from Russia in 2018

Belarus to 2018 will fully refuse from imports of electricity, including purchases from the Russian Federation. This was stated by energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik, reports «BelTA».

«We have completed negotiations with Russia on the import of electricity. At the prices which were offered by Russia, we refuse to buy, will replace its own production. 2018 refuse fully from import of electricity,» said Potupchik.

Belarus has agreed with Russia’s import in 2017, 2.5 billion kWh of electricity contracted and reserved another 1 billion kW/h.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near the town of Ostrovets in the Grodno region. The first unit is scheduled to enter into operation in 2019, the second – in 2020.
