Attempts to return to negotiations with Ukraine on the exhumation of the poles — Waszczykowski

The Polish-Ukrainian negotiations on exhumation of ethnic poles in Ukraine may be resumed, said the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with wPolityce.

«Attempts to return to the Polish-Ukrainian negotiations with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister (Peter) Glinski. Such a meeting is planned on 4 or 5 December,» – said Waszczykowski.

«Hope dies last. We believe that this is a problem that can be solved without costs,» the diplomat added.

The Ukrainian Institute of national remembrance in 2017 initiated a moratorium on the exhumation of poles in connection with acts of vandalism against monuments and memorials on the graves of Ukrainian in Poland.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Andriy Deshchytsya said in an interview with «UKRINFORM» published on 21 November that the Polish authorities agreed to the restoration of Ukrainian places of memory in Poland, which became the target of acts of vandalism in 2014.

Such an agreement was allegedly reached during negotiations of the Deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine Konstantin Yeliseyev and chief of the Chancellery of the President of Poland Krzysztof Selskogo, which took place on 17 November in Krakow.

After negotiations a press-service of the President of Ukraine said that the sides agreed to lift the moratorium on execution of search and exhumation work in Ukraine

Mersky denied the existence of such an agreement.

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda called unacceptable the fact that in important positions in Ukraine are the people who have «openly anti-Polish» and nationalist views.

The foreign Ministry of Ukraine said that the Ukrainian authorities have no politicians with anti-Polish views.
