The Deputy Chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chigos, located in Crimea under arrest by the «case on February 26,» once again stressed that he was kept in custody for his political beliefs. He said this at trial, on appeal against extension of his arrest, which the Russian Supreme court of the Crimea on 4 February was rejected, reports «Crimea.Realities» with reference to the press service of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
«There is a vested interest, and the Prosecutor’s office exerts any pressure on the judges. Hope that common sense is useless. The arguments that the Prosecutor makes, so fictional, that (it) does not honor the judicial system and law enforcement bodies of the Russian Federation,» said Chigos.
«Yes, I am a citizen of Ukraine, and not consider it as a crime. I believe that some public prosecutors, working for the state of Ukraine, changed the oath and today I am taking revenge for that, for my basic beliefs,» – said the Deputy Chairman of the Majlis.
Chigos once again declared that does not intend to hide and is not going to leave Crimea in case of their release from custody.
«I think that for my political beliefs I’m being held hostage. Attempt at the expense of my arrest to intimidate the whole nation. All the problems which are experienced by the authorities in Crimea and the Prosecutor’s office, trying to cancel on me. It sounded from the lips of prosecutors repeatedly in court. The judges are all hostages, and neither of which the justice can be no question,» said Chigos.
As reported, Akhtem Chigos Russian investigators considered the organizer and leader of «mass riots» on February 26, 2014, when near the Crimean Parliament, on the eve of the Russian takeover of Crimea, held a rally in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity («business 26»).
At the rally of the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian activists opposed the calls of Pro-Russian forces for the secession of Crimea from Ukraine. They were opposed by the supporters of the party «Russian unity» headed by the current self-proclaimed «head of Crimea» Sergey Aksyonov, who organized a rally near the Supreme Council of the autonomy. During the action between the opposing forces clashed, but the organizers of both rallies eventually managed to breed people.
January 29, 2015 in Crimea, the representatives of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Chilgoza detained on suspicion of organizing mass riots and participating in them.
On 1 December the court dismissed the appeal of protection and left the defendants in the «case on February 26,» custody (of Akhtem Chilgoza, as well as degermendgi Mustafa and Ali Asanov) .
On 4 February, the Russian Supreme court of Crimea has refused to satisfy the appeal of Akhtem Chilgoza against the extension of the term of his detention.
