Anti-government rallies in Iran: authorities have blocked Instagram and Telegram

Iranian authorities have blocked messaging social network Instagram and the app Telegram. It is reported Associated Press with reference to the state television of Iran.

Source TV said that the network blocked «to support peace and security of citizens.»

The decision on temporary restriction of the Telegram and Instagram allegedly adopted by the Supreme national security Council.

Director General of the Telegram informed the Agency that Iran blocks access app «for most Iranians» after protesters used the popular app to share information about planning for actions during anti-government demonstrations in the country.

On 28 December, Iran launched a major eight years of anti-government protests. The authorities of the country require to overcome poverty, to release political prisoners, to end the tyranny of the police and to stop participating in the conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Iraq. Security forces used water cannons and detained dozens of activists.

The United States condemned the arrests of protesters in Iran.

On 30 December, the protests spread to the capital of Iran Tehran. Demonstrators attacked some government buildings and trying to attack them. It is reported that in the provincial town of Darude police have shot dead two anti-government demonstrations.

Today the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov said that the messenger was blocked by the Iranian channel amadnews suggested to use «Molotov cocktails» against the police.
